Warlock Tetro Puzzle is a free-to-play puzzle game from the one-person indie developer Maksym Matiushenko. The Tetris-style puzzle blends block puzzle, tile-matching game, and board game mechanics, offering a fresh take on the popular pastime. It features a magical theme with magical artifacts such as elixirs, potions, and runes serving as game items.
Right in the middle of the 10x10 or 11x11 board is the “dungeon” reminiscent of Solitaire Match 3, which you need to clear with the falling tetromino blocks. Besides the main game, Warlock Tetro Puzzle includes an adventure mode with two magical campaigns and daily challenges.
A magical twist
Presented like a board game, Warlock Tetro Puzzle is a part-block puzzle and part-match 3 game. The board alternates between 10x10 or 11x11 grids, depending on the level you're in. In the middle of the board is the “dungeon," which on the whole follows match-3 game mechanics, but here’s the catch: You can only clear the trapped tiles in the “dungeon” with the falling tetromino blocks.
The theme of the puzzle is magic, which means you get enchanted tiles and blocks with special powers. Plus, you can use magical artifacts like elixirs and runes as boosters or powerups. Replayability is high, with the main puzzle boasting 28 handcrafted levels with increasing difficulty and an adventure mode featuring the Apprentice Adventure and the Warlock Power campaigns. Daily challenges are also available.
Once you master the game, you can unlock up to 40 achievements and track your progress on the leaderboard. While accessible to players of all skills, the game poses a steep learning curve, which is understandable since the mechanics are a mix of different genres. Although the tutorial helps to some extent, it still takes time and several attempts before you can get the hang of it.
